Romeo, the son of David Beckham, plays what position and for what team?

You may be aware that Inter Miami made a fairly high-profile signing not too long ago. Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami upon the expiration of his Paris Saint-Germain contract, but there was also a significant departure, with Beckham leaving the Herons.

Just in case you thought you’d missed some blockbuster news, however, it’s not co-owner David who’s given up on his Miami dream, but instead son Romeo.

All three of the Beckham boys – Brooklyn and Cruz too – played in the Arsenal academy but only Romeo, now 20, has been deemed good enough to make it as a professional, despite being released by the Gunners, like his brothers. After previously giving up on his dreams of following in his father’s footsteps and dabbling in tennis, Beckham Jr decided to return to soccer in 2020 and in September 2021 signed for Fort Lauderdale CF, Inter Miami’s reserve team (now called Inter Miami II).

Having played in various positions when he was younger, Beckham established himself as a right-sided attacker while playing for Inter Miami II in MLS Next Pro Eastern Conference. While he scored just two goals in 20 appearances in the 2022 season, he provided 10 assists. Some things just run in the family.

His performances caught the attention of Premier League club Brentford, who he began training with in October 2022 and signed for on loan in January after impressing in London. Beckham played a number of games for the B team, who don’t play in a competitive league but instead play friendlies and cup competitions, and earned rave reviews from coach Neil MacFarlane.

“Romeo has applied himself unbelievably well, he’s really bought into the culture and the group which he has become a big part of. I love his standards and the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch.”

Brentford signed Beckham on a one-year contract, with the option of an additional season. The forward is initially expected to continue with the B team but first-team boss Thomas Frank has previously commented on his abilities: “I’ve seen him. I think he’s an interesting player. We hope, of course, like a lot of others that he can make it to the first team.”
